Course contents

Traditional Grammar – word and phrasal categories. The Transformational Generative Grammar theory – FSG, PSG, TGG, GB, Minimalist theory. Application of TGG to the analysis of the Efik/Ibibio clause structure – dependent and independent clauses, sentences. Statements, interrogatives, declaratives, imperatives and focus constructions.
