At the end of the course, students should be able to
explain the meaning, history and advent of literary theories in Yorùbá literature

Course contents

Literary history among the Africans before the advent of colonisation as related to oral poetry. Traditional drama and prose forms. Types of literary criticism in the pre-colonial era – preperformance criticism, communal editing, post-performance criticism and others. Modern criticism and the use of theories.
