ISS 107 — Introduction to Islamic Philosophy

What you'll be able to do (official learning outcomes)

• explain the origin and sources of Islamic philosophy
• describe the contributions of Muslim philosophers towards the development of Islam
• appraise the interplay and connectedness of Islamic philosophy with other philosophies such as, Greek, Persian and Roman philosophies; and
• appreciate the contributions of other philosophies to Islamic philosophies

Course contents

The definition and origin of Islamic philosophy. Sources of Islamic philosophy. Development of Islamic philosophy. The interplay of the Greek, Persian, Roman and Islamic philosophy. Their role in the development of Islamic culture and civilization particularly during the premodern period.
