RAE 302 — Principles of Soil Mechanics and Engineering Geology

• evaluate and classify soils including soil and water weight-volume relationships
• evaluate the state of stress and shear strength of a soil mass
• estimate seepage volume and settlement through a compressible soil mass; and
• find the bearing capacity of shallow and deep foundations

Course contents

Soil as a foundation for structures and as a material of construction. Soil formation, classification, physical and mechanical properties, soil compaction, earth pressures, consolidation, and shear strength.
