SOS 301 — Soil Chemistry and Microbiology

• describe the mineral transformations of hydrocarbons, the ecological interrelationships and interactions among species in the soil environment
• know the effects of our general agricultural practices on soil organisms and their activities

Course contents

Soil colloids; general constitution of silicate clays, sorptive properties of soils (electrically charged surfaces, exchangeable cations and cation exchange capacity; the diffusive layer, characteristics of cation exchange, selectivity of cation adsorption, anion retention, adsorption of organic molecules, sorption of gases.
