ARC 201 — Architectural Design Studio I

What you'll be able to do (official learning outcomes)

• create ergonomically effective spaces with appropriate relationships with human dimensions
• interpret the relationship between enclosure and form
• integrate passive design principles to design projects given
• make presentation drawings in 2D CAD format and in freehand; and
• demonstrate familiarity with residential building typologies

Course contents

Basic characteristics of space and place. Spatial and formal qualities of places. Exercises on the exploration of space and form through measured drawings and sketches. Exercises on spaces as a place as activity and function. The role of anthropometrics/ergonomics. Spatial composition. Climatic considerations.
