LIN 201 — Basic Phonology

Course contents

Introduction to the study of phonology. Identification of sounds. Natural classes of sounds, basic concepts in phonology. Relationship and differences between phonetics and phonology. Phonology and orthography. Axioms of classical phonology. Structuralist, functionalist and generativist approaches and their problems.
