PPL 301 — Law of Torts I

What you'll be able to do (official learning outcomes)

• acquire basic knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of tort,
• explain the concepts and history of tort law generally
• appreciate the sources of law of tort; and
• explain the contents of key legal issues in tort law

Course contents

Historical background and general principles of tortious liability (defences will be considered concerning each tort) . T respass to person – assault, battery, false imprisonment and intentional harm to the person. Trespass to land; trespass to chattel, conversion and detinue. Negligence – duty of care, standard of care. Proof of negligence. Nervous shock. Contributory negligence and damages, including the remoteness of damage. Occupier’s liability.
