Mathematical preliminaries for continuum mechanics. Linear Independence, basis vectors, dimensionality. The Einstein summation convention. Scaling, scalar, vector and tensor products. Cartesian and curvilinear orthogonal coordinate systems. Tensors as linear transformations. Tensor invariants. Additive and multiplicative decompositions. Differentiation of vectors and tensors.
